I recently installed 4.8-stable. When running lynx, I can only access sites outside my LAN by launching lynx as root. I can't access external sites if I launch lynx using sudo or after su-ing to root. I've searched archives and googled, and haven't found anything on this. It happened immediately after the upgrade, before any post-installation configuration, i.e. before setting up NAT, the firewall, etc. Whenever I try to access an external site, I get May 30 23:16:21 svold /kernel: Connection attempt to TCP 127.0.0.1:3128 from 127.0.0.1:1188 3128 is the squid port. I don't have squid installed, and neither squid or port 3128 are mentioned in any of my configuration files. This has been going on for two weeks while I searched archives and hunted through my config files. This only happens on the FBSD 4.8 box, which is my internet gateway. It doesn't happen on a 5.0 box, which accesses the outside world through the 4.8 box. I'm completely baffled. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? uname -a FreeBSD svold.krig.net 4.8-STABLE FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE #0: Fri May 30 23:54:09 EDT 2003 root@svold.krig.net:/usr/src/sys/compile/SVOLD0 i386 I have altered the kernel, but this was happening with an unaltered GENERIC also.
