Freebsd 2.1 ctype.h defines isnumber() [I'm not going 
to debate the goodness of this -- playing with POSIX_SOURCE/
-ansi made other things break...

This seems (for now) relatively easy...it would be a good
idea to change isnumber to some other name?  [or fix ctype.h
in freebsd]

Anyway, for fileutils 3.12 here's what I did:
