I'm working on the atapi system right now, I have semilar problems 
(and new ones :) ) with the atapi tape driver. I'd like to do a
rewrite, but I simply doesn't have the time for that now, so I'll
try to fix what we have. I'm well aware of the potential hangs
we can suffer :(
