I did a build from more or less top of tree- I had had a clean buildworld, so
I built a kernel and did the installworld and did mergemaster and did
disklabel -B, and got:

>>>b
(boot dqa0.0.0.11.0 -flags a)
block 0 of dqa0.0.0.11.0 is a valid boot block
reading 15 blocks from dqa0.0.0.11.0
bootstrap code read in
base = 180000, image_start = 0, image_bytes = 1e00
initializing HWRPB at 2000
initializing page table at 172000
initializing machine state
setting affinity to the primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code
Loading /boot/loader
Console: SRM firmware console
VMS PAL rev: 0x1000900010115
OSF PAL rev: 0x1000800020117
Switch to OSF PAL code succeeded.

FreeBSD/alpha SRM disk boot, Revision 1.0
(mjacob@farrago.feral.com, Fri Sep  8 07:16:18 PDT 2000)
Memory: 262144 k
-
halted CPU 0

halt code = 2
kernel stack not valid halt
PC = 200000000

for my pains. Tsk.
