I have a Gold and a Silver Orinoco card.  They are at least two years 
old.  I did not upgrade their firmware.

As mentioned previously, after upgrading the WAP to  v1.06, Feb 18 
2003.

It looks like either the WAP or the card upgrade allows comms to 
work.
