-stable grep (2.0 + FreeBSD-specific features) uses -a to skip binary
files at all. Very useful in such context as:
vi `grep -aRl foo .`

in -current both 'grep -al' and 'grep -l' print names of binary files
and there is no way to tell grep to skip them
