a couple possible problems.

it could be that you FreeBSD partition is about the PC's bootloader
limit of 1024 cylinders.

it could be the boot block etc had not been installed on the partition.

boot from the install disk. when you get the boot: prompt follow the
instructions (for example wd(0,a)/kernel). if it boot, you know the
OS has been installed fully, but prob have exceeded the cylinder count.
