Hi.

Check out the build for "Build for FreeBSD/x86" under the HowTos tree on the
left hand side.

I followed these instructions (last week) to the letter and had no problems.
That was my first ever experance of BSD and UNIX. Can't be bad.

The main thing is to install all the listed ports installed,

OpenMotif development environment 2.1.30
(/usr/ports/x11-toolkits/open-motif-devel/)
GNU make 3.79.1 (/usr/ports/devel/gmake/)
GNU m4 1.4 (/usr/ports/devel/m4/)
dgs 0.5.9 (/usr/ports/x11/dgs/)
unixODBC 1.8.8 (/usr/ports/databases/unixODBC/)
JDK 1.1.8 (/usr/ports/java/jdk/)
Swing 1.1.1 (/usr/ports/java/jfc/)
Linux JDK 1.2.2 (/usr/ports/java/linux-jdk/)
Zip 2.3 (/usr/ports/archivers/zip/)

At a guess, you probably won't be able to run the linux vm without first
enabling linux support.

Roy.

Subject: can't install jdk12-beta from ports

i am trying to install jdk12-beta from the ports but when i do make i
get the following error:

Your ALT_BOOTDIR environment variable does not point
to a valid JDK for bootstrapping this build.
A JDK1.2 or 1.2.x build must be bootstrapped against
a 1.2-v (or later) build. Please update your ALT-BOOTDIR
settin, or just unset it, and try again.

i checked /usr/local/linux-jdk1.2.2/bin and tried to run
java command but got this error:

/usr/local/linux-jdk1.2.2/bin/i386/green_threads/java: error in loading
shared libraries
libhpi.so: cannont open shared object file: No such file or directory

i am using Freebsd 4.2-Release.

has anyone used the ports to install it? what am i doing wrong?
