Hmm... So the hard disc driver delivers data quite quickly...

Maybe you could try a read from /dev/zero via ftp (by logging in as a user via
ftp)? Then we would see, how fast your network driver + card is (e. g. if you
use "wget" there is a speed meter on the right)...
