So let's build a portable library of that stuff that can be used when
porting code.  See also lukemftp or portabel openssh.

Since neither of these prefixes is reserved in any way I think we
should go for the clearer of the two, which I think is `e'.

Sorry for not being clear.  I just wanted to be complete and include
