"mknod" is your friend. As root: cd /dev mknod ttyv[x] 12 [x] where x is the tty # you're making. As an aside, this should probably be in the Handbook, if it isn't already. The mknod command isn't one of the more popular ones, I'm sure most people don't even know it exists.
