Take a look at the following link, there is a section on what you have to do with named during an upgrade. http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.3R/migration-guide.html Note that your config files need to be moved from /var/named to /var/named/etc/namedb FYI i start BIND 9 in sandbox with "/etc/rc.d/named start" It looks easier than typing all that you typed ;) Hope this helps
