Do you want the lan to access the outside?  If not, then just don't 
enable ip forwarding (/etc/sysconfig:gateway=NO)

Otherwise, running some packet filters would be a good idea. 
Run 2.1.5 and read /etc/rc.firewall.  Build a kernel with 
options IPFIREWALL
