Yes, it's a STREAMS pipe, used for file descriptor passing to get a
filehandle on a pipe to the Xserver for the local connection.  Your
best bet for info on how this works is to look at the XFree86 code
which emulates SCO's X-Server connection methods.  Then you've only
gotta figure out how to do it on FreeBSD.. :-)

Or: try setting your $DISPLAY to something that implies a TCP/IP
connection to the server instead of a local connection..
ie: setenv DISPLAY my.full.fqdn:0
