What are people doing for speaker phone type pickup/playback?

Does anyone "out there" sell an audio level speaker phone?

I've been thinking that perhaps a telco type speaker phone might
be made to work.

Is there any way or has anyone hooked a telephone to a PC such that
the PC can capture/play audio via the handset?

I'm thinking I can hook a speaker phone to a ZyXEL 1496E modem and
use the ADPCM playback/capture however I'm not sure if the
ZyXEL can do full duplex.
