Whenever I try to establish a PPP connection between my
BSD machine and a network, I get the following message
after loging into the gateway:

SIOCAIFADDR: File exists.

What does this mean and how do I get rid of this?

I am connected to the network via ethernet but I use
ifconfig ed0 down and ifconfig ed0 delete to cut off
this connection.
