Sorry for not providing more info, i thought since there was an open PR
on the problem, that all relevant info was already available.

OK, here goes. I basically used the exact same config for zip driver
as i had used in 3.4. Juan Segovia helped me tremendously, since we
both have the same laptop and both of us have ECP and std
bi-directional modes for our parallel port bios settings. NB: no EPP,
per se.

I was running in straight nibble mode under bi-directional
standard mode for my port, and things worked. Then, we figured out (he
figured out ;-) how i could get ECP mode working by tinkering with
some flags. I had heard that my laptop simply wouldn't work with ECP
and zip drives, but this was obviously untrue, because i had used it
with windows for quite some time under ECP mode. Once ECP was
working, there was an apparent dramatic improvement in speed, esp.
when writing to BSD zips, not DOS. I was very happy. Meanwhile, Juan
has been running -current on his laptop since sometime last year, and
that includes his zip drive.

I tried every possible combo of flags imaginable under 4.0. I tried
the first set i had used that only gave nibble mode, and the recent
settings that game me full ECP mode. I'm running 4.0-build #47
because that's about how many zip flag changes i tried. No dice.
The problem is exactly as reported in the PR:

ppc0: <parallel port> at port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 at isa0
ppc0: Generic chipset (NIBBLE-only) in COMPATIBLE mode
....
vpo0: <Iomega Matchmaker Interface> on ppbus0
vpo0: EPP 1.9 mode
      vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
      vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (2)
      vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
      vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (2)
      vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)

Apparently, Fritz has one chipset, while i have the Matchmaker chipset
running in the zip Plus 250 meg model. The vpo error is the same.

If anyone needs more info, i'll be happy to provide it.
