not sure it can work because:

1) the netmasks for the two interfaces are overlapping, and am not
   sure which one is used for the "auto" address;
2) the arp table would be used for both interfaces (I think), so
   the router would be unable to communicate with the
   machines on the /24 side.

I think a real proxyarp thing is needed.
