Subject: 5.2R CD hangs during boot at sym0 device

I created a 5.2 boot CD from disc1.iso image.
When I boot that CD the system gets hung at the sym0 device:

sym0: suspicious SCSI data while resetting the bus
sym0: dp0,d7/0, rst,req, ack i/o=0x3ffff, expecting 0x100

After a couple of seconds that last message repeats about 10 times and
then nothing. Reset button required.

The card is a PCI card with a NCR 53C810 chip on it.
No drives are attached to it and the SIP1,2 and 3 sockets were not
populated with terminating resistors, FWIW.

I wanted to use that card as an interface to a Mustek scanner
since I have no ISA slot anymore in that MB (an ASUS P4P8X)
After taking out the card I could continue with installation.
