Ok.

Anyway, the instructions in the handbook should suffice, but as a quick
and easy way: Use the SMP config file in /usr/src/sys/amd64/conf
You need kernel sources for this, btw.

cd /usr/src
make buildkernel KERNCONF=SMP
make installkernel KERNCONF=SMP

And reboot...
