Seems mpd is looking for hook named "orphans"
after this command:
/usr/sbin/ngctl mkpeer dc0: pppoe orphans ethernet
mpd starts correctly.

>How-To-Repeat:
Start mpd after a fresh reboot or
stop mpd if already running.
/usr/sbin/ngctl rmhook your-interface: orphans
start mpd

>Fix:
workaround:
insert "ngctl mkeeper" command in the start-up script.

definitive: mpd should create "orphans" if it doesn't already exist.
