A reasonable audit display of the Gnome-2.6 upgrade process can be obtained by using: tail -f /path/to/logfile | grep -e '--->'. This will show only the "Uninstalling ..", "Deinstalling ..", "Cleaning Out ..", "Backing up ..", et cetera, major functions of portupgrade without all of the configure and compilation output.
