Hi ! Could some kind soul help me designing an expensive but good SCSI RAID solution ? Its the only FreeBSD system but I hope I can attract customer .... Want to build up a not too expensive RAID system for my customer. FreeBSD machine currently is a 4.0-20000715-STABLE machine, which will be upgraded to FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE soon. Currently I have an Adaptec Wide SCSI controller builtin: ahc0: <Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI adapter> port 0xf400-0xf4ff mem 0xfedfe0= 00-0xfedf efff irq 7 at device 19.0 on pci0 ahc0: aic7880 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=3D7, 16/255 SCBs I want a separate RAID controller in a separae case, which offers hot plug capability and optional hot spare disk. I want to connect the external raid tower to the Adaptec like a separate disk. I think of 3 disks doing RAID level 5 and perhaps one "hot spare" that automatically jumps in, if one disk is misbehaving. There should be a possibility, that one gets an hearable warning or over another notifi= cation, so that you can automate the process of notifying administrator via e-m= ail. I=B4m looking for a complete solution, which I can buy in Germany, if i= ts possible. If not possible, then single components. One SCSI channel would already= be satisfactory, dual channel would be o.k. as well. Any help would be highly appreciated.
