Subject: Setting X resolution at prompt

I run X at 1280x1024, but want to run it for games (wine, quake, etc)
at a lower res so I don't have to ctrl-alt-+/- it to a matching size
then inch the viewing portion onto the window I'm looking at. I
figured I could start up a second X server (this works) but I can't
get to it start at a resolution of my choosing, say 640x480.

Any pointers? (section of a man page, faq, etc.)
