Your test file works fine for me on 3.4.  This makes me think that the
problem is the part of interrupt_md.c which has only been #ifdef'ed out
for FreeBSD 4.0 _not_ fixed (see ISSUES).  The error message you receive
adds fuel to this fire IMO.
