I had a lot of hard-disk problems recently when upgrading to a new
motherboard. There seemed to be two different problems, a faulty
harddisk (which I replaced) and then trying to run the onboard IDE
too fast - by this I mean I was running the PCI bus at 40Mhz and
getting similar types of errors, by turning it back down to 20Mhz
the problems went away.
