You should be able to locate the kernel configuration files in:

/usr/src/sys/i386/conf

LINT is a masterpiece of information. Once you create or copy a kernel
configuration file, perhaps using GENERIC as a template, you would
perform the following steps:

config NEWKERNEL
cd ../../compile/NEWKERNEL
make depend
make
make install

This will compile and install your new kernel.
