What is that harddisk connected to? The onboard SCSI controller of the 
Alpha? What does the SRM console tell you when you type SHOW CONF
and SHOW DEV at the >>> prompt?

You don't have to, the install kernels are compiled with the necessary 
support code (options FOO is a config/compile time thing). 

Another question: is it an AlphaServer 1000 or an AlphaServer 1000A (note
the trailing A)
