--version is not supported unlike GNU timeout.

Exist? What does timeout(1) without the option? The man page lacks
EXIT STATUS section.

  $ timeout 1 sleep 10
  zsh: exit 124

  $ timeout --preserve-status 1 sleep 10
  zsh: exit 143
