  Strange, 

   kernel -> kernel.old
   and kernel is mint compiled one from scratch.  And sys/sys/param.h source code used to compile kernel says;

#undef __FreeBSD_version
#define __FreeBSD_version 800100        /* Master, propagated to newvers */

   I think that there are no room to contaminate with 7.2 libraries/modules as far as kernel and its modules concern.
