What format of floppy are you attempting to mount?
If it is a windows or dos formatted flopy then you need special options to
mount it: 'mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt'.  
If it's a UFS floppy then your command should work.

Mounting a CDROM requires a special argument too:
'mount -t cd9660 /dev/wcd0c /mnt'
