That's where I jumped in in an earlier stage of this thread. :)

It should not be removed without substitute.  It could be renamed
to -H and should reverse the effect of -L.  See symlink(7) on why
command lines like "cmd -H -L -H ..." can sum up and why
switching to both directions is desirable.
