Subject:   bash doesn't recognize .profile when in X

I have this command in my .profile which allows me to do a "ls -lt" with
just an "l";

l() { /bin/ls -lt $*; }			# less typing

that works find when not in X - but when I fire up my window manager
(kde)
it will not recognize the command.

Any ideas ?
