the number of cases where things get worse going to 4.0 is even more important than the number of systems that get better. an old but reliable rule in business: 1 bad user experience is more powerful that 10 good user experiences or It takes 10 happy users to repair the damage done by one unhappy user. it's very true. what I'd like to see is to stop "improving" FreeBSD and get it stable, and get it working on the real hardware in the field. all these answers of "gee, it must be your hardware - buy a new computer" isn't gonna fly with the people you wish to impress. if this effort doesn't stop rocketing along, utterly out of control, and focus on getting the thing ROCK SOLID on the hardware that's out there, this effort is utterly doomed to a long, painful, flaming death. yes, I'll get flamed for this reality check, but you're just in denial and screaming at the messenger. This effort has been breathing its own gas for way too long and denying the efforts and successes of others out of raw religiosity. so the life you save may be your own. stop polishing a smaller and smaller doorknob, focus on getting the system stable on the hardware that's out there, and stop making excuses about how unworthy so many of the supplicants are. Otherwise, this is going to be relegated to a very small footnote in history.
