I don't know any difference between the performance of slave drives
and of master drives.  The problem is that most drives can't transfer
in parallel (though I believe that, with the correct driver
parameters, this particular drive can do so.

I didn't comment on this because it's probably the best configuration
I can think of.  From a Vinum standpoint, the drives are on different
controllers.  Access to the Vinum volumes and the primary master drive
will, of course, be impacted.
