I have a ASUS too and on the AC97 (as with any other MBs), I just disabled
it in the BIOS. If you don't do that and take pcm0 out of the kernel,
you'll still have to put up with the "unknown card" message (but harmless I
guess) in dmesg.

Don't know about the other stuff.
