I can't explain why the aout rtld would be looking at the elf libs. Since
the first that this occurs is immediately after ldconfig rescans for
libs, I guess it might be related to that. You've already said that
/etc/rc has _LDC pointing to /usr/lib/aout. Immediately after the build
fails, try running `ldconfig -aout -r' and check the paths reported.
If there are no tmp components of these paths, then maybe the problem
is things set in your environment. Are you setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH?
