Notice the word "should". I have two sets of these cables, and I still get the problem. I also get the problem irregardless of hard drive I use (I have an IBM, Seagate, and a Maxtor). The problem in my case seems to be certain incompatibilies between ATA100 drives and ATA66 motherboards (mine is an A-bit KT7). The get the errors to go away (and avoid possible data corruption), you can always do a: sysctl hw.atamodes=pio,---,---,---, This will slow the read/write speed to 16Mb/s, which is no big deal in my case as I am a file server to the outside world over a 192Kb/s DSL link. Other than that, I haven't heard of any fixes for the issues bewteen hard drives and motherboards. I also have an A-bit KG-7 motherboard and do not have the problem with it when using the same hard drives and cables.
