If you want to keep postfix, you'll have to figure it out separately. >From the verbose messages, it looked like it may have put aliases.db in /etc, not /etc/mail. Did you install postfix from ports? If you want to go back to sendmail, deinstalling the postfix port may restore /etc/mail/mailer.conf to the original state.
