Eric,

First of all, glad to hear that we didn't scare you off. :)

Second: anyone expecting "official @FreeBSD.org" support is going to
be disappointed. As far as the doc proj goes, we're it. I'm sending
this from my @FreeBSD.org address, so consider this official.

Eric, I haven't evaluated your search engine code, so don't take any
of the below personally; this is a general overview, from my POV.

I think what we'd need to see to make a change on our search engine is
a "design document" of some sort. What problems do we have, and what
problems does your new search engine solve? I don't pretend to be
qualified to judge this, mind you... I'm an author, not a programmer.
I do know "Sucks" when I see it, though, and our current search engine
has it in buckets!

In any replacement, we need to know that it's "better enough" to make
a change worthwhile. That means we need some sort of qualitative and
quantitative analysis of where we stand versus the new proposal.

Sadly, saying "This new model has less Suckage" isn't enough to get a
change made. Saying how it sucks less is necessary to overcome the
inertia of sticking with what we have.

I'm out of town for a few days, so I'll leave folks with that. Upon
my return, I expect that one of our other @FreeBSD.org folks will have
dealt wiht atomz, someone will have documented the deficiencies in our
current search system, and World Peace 1.0-RELEASE will be tagged. If
not, well, then I guess I'll have to do it in my Copious Free Time. :)
