Would it be possible for you to set up the ssh auto-login (using
.ssh/authorized_keys) and have rdump set up using sudo?  If you made sudo
able to only run a shell script, then you wouldn't have to worry about
anyone being able to retrieve arbitrary data (altho you already have a
serious compromise if your backup machine is taken over).
