Today's Article: Test...Test...Test!!!
===========================================================================

Many shareware authors are very analytical people. When it comes to
advertising their software they pull their hair out trying to come up with
the "perfect" ad. So what makes that "perfect" ad? I'm not going to give
you a long list of goals you need to meet to have a successful advertising
campaign because that all depends on your target audience. And even if you
do know exactly who your target audience is, how do you know what will make
them want your product?

Instead of working that right side of your brain to come up with one
outstanding ad, use the left side and take a scientific approach.

Here's the idea:

Step 1: Come up with 10 banners. Make each one quite a bit different.
Maybe add crazy colors to one, text only in another, just pictures in
another, maybe animated. It doesn't really matter as long as they're
drastically different.

Step 2: Post your banners somewhere. It doesn't matter what type of banner
program as long as all the banners are circulated through the same route.

Step 3: After about a month look at the statistics of each banner. You'll
see very clearly which ones were a success and which ones weren't.

Step 4: Take the most popular banner from your original test and change one
aspect, such as the background color, so that you have 10 of that same
banner with that one feature changed and repeat the test in step 2.

This approach takes the guesswork out of your design. Why rack your brain
trying to figure out what people will be interested in. Let them tell you
what they like by testing...testing...testing.

Good luck, and happy banner making!!!
