Hello,

fom the man page [IFCONFIG(8)] :
     ifconfig interface address_family [address [dest_address]]
[parameters]

in your case : ifconfig ed0 inet 192.4.1.154 netmask 255.255.255.0

if you still have ed0: device timeout error messages, it's most likely
this is because your Ethernet cable is not plugged in the BNC connector
of the board (this answer is in the FAQ, which you can find in 
/usr/share/doc/FAQ)
