I have recently used a SIIG Serial ATA PCI adaptor with FreeBSD 6.1 and had
no observable problems whatsoever.

pciconf -v -l shows the following information:

atapci1@pci0:11:0:      class=0x018000 card=0x31121095 chip=0x31121095
rev=0x02
hdr=0x00
    vendor = 'Silicon Image Inc (Was: CMD Technology Inc)'
    device   = 'SiI 3112 SATALink/SATARaid Controller'
    class    = mass storage

I'm not 100% sure on the model # for the card, but I think it is

SC-SRT212

At any rate, no observable problems running under FreeBSD 6.1
