The last time I tried vmware3 it failed later on because it was trying to be clever and look for the linux kernel modules directory, which of course doesn't exist on FreeBSD, even with the linux binary emulation port installed :(. I've not have the time to look more closely at this so I'm stuck with a licence that I've paid for, but can't use :(.
