I mean, it makes sense to leave the system freely configurable, but wouldn't it make sense that the default config be useable? For exampl,e little things, like linux uses bash as the default shell. It's there, it works, no questions asked: my backspace never turns into a ^H, and arrow up is history, not ^A]. This is one thing that makes it very frustrating for those of us who leave Linux for something reportedly better. I agree i *do* like FreeBSD better now, but i'm still pulling my hair out over little details that were smooth sailing with Linux. And setting up usable color consoles shouldn't be that difficult.
