We're a mostly Sun house, but we're using FreeBSD as a file server.
Btw, many kudos on the improvements since I used to run it (1.0, I
believe). The problem we're having is with file locking over NFS.
rpcinfo on our system shows that lockd is not registered and scanning
briefly over the system shows that there is no 'rpc.lockd'. Am I
missing something?

This problem reared it's head because ListProc uses locking to prevent
multiple updates. Our Sun(Sunos 4.1) mail machine attempts to lock
a file NFS mounted on our FreeBSD box which results in hang of the process
waiting for resources that will never appear.

Btw, is there any support in the kernel for RAID? I've noticed reports
on a Compaq? card that handles it transparently.
