Yes, there is an alpha port. A good starting point is to read:
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/4.1-RELEASE/INSTALL.TXT
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/4.1-RELEASE/HARDWARE.TXT

I find it very stable and reliable. I even have XFree86 running, too.
