When I boot with the USB nic connected to my machine I get an error like:

uhub0: device error, disabling port 1

That may not be exact wording but it is close.
This device worked fine on this machine under Linux but it does not seem to
communicate properly under FreeBSD.
I am probably missing something simple but I do not know where to begin.

My machine is a Compaq Presario 1270 laptop
My USB controller was determined to be "AcerLabs Aladdin-V" or something
like that.

What can I try to resolve this issue?
