I have a vga (Et4000 with 1MB) and a genius mouse (works on X as MouseSystems on /dev/ttyd1) I guilt a kernel this morning - built moused by hand (I see you just added it to usr.bin/Makefile). When I # moused -t mousesystems -p /dev/ttyd1 moused does not "daemonise". It never returns to the prompt and I cannot C&P. ^C give me the prompt back. X is still OK.
